To help the greenhouse horticulture sector move towards a climate-neutral future, businesses in Steenbergen and Dinteloord are collaborating on the Osiris project. The aim is to make residual heat and captured CO₂ from PreZero in Roosendaal available to greenhouse horticulture businesses. This is an ambitious project in which technology, finance, planning permission and collaboration are closely intertwined.
The Osiris project focuses on the construction of infrastructure to transport heat and CO₂ to a total of 257 hectares of greenhouse horticulture. A project of this scale required careful coordination between entrepreneurs, landowners, public authorities and other stakeholders.
AAB has been involved in the development of the project from the outset. Following the concept phase, we managed the process, analysed business cases and provided support with grant applications. In addition, we designed the distribution networks for both greenhouse horticulture areas, facilitated consultations with landowners and stakeholders regarding the transport network, and handled the planning permission processes and project management.
This has laid an important foundation for the use of residual heat and the reuse of CO₂ within the greenhouse horticulture sector in West Brabant. The project demonstrates how technical, financial and organisational issues can be brought together in a single integrated approach.
This project demonstrates that successful sustainability requires more than just a technical solution. A strong business case, support from the parties involved, planning permission and effective project management are just as important for actually realising these ambitions.
